One of the attractions along the San Antonio Riverwalk is Marriage Island. The history goes back to 1691 and the location of San Antonio’s first Catholic mass. The small island is now one of the hot spots for engagements and marriage ceremonies in San Antonio. The island is situated along the river just off Navarro Street and West Market, directly behind the Hotel Contessa.
The island attracts many visitors and is a great location for a photo along the Riverwalk. Anchored to it is one of the many huge cypress trees that are so prominent along the river. If you are looking for a small intimate wedding location, Marriage Island is a great place to check into. A use permit is required which can be obtained from the San Antonio Parks and Rec department, and of course I can recommend a great photographer for capturing the ceremony.
