Leesa and Aaron – Canyon Lake Wedding

Photography from Leesa and Aaron’s fun filled wedding at Canyon Lake Cabins and Cottages including a surprise engagement.

It’s such an unassuming venue, tucked away back in the tress off FM306.  The quaint rustic charm hides the true party nature of this venue.  Most receptions spill over into the wee hours of the morning…Leesa and Aaron’s wedding was no exception.

Congrats to you both and thanks for inviting Michelle and I to capture all the joy and fun of your wedding day.

McNay Art Museum Bridal Photography – San Antonio, TX

The Mcnay Art Museum has long been a favorite destination of wedding photographers and brides around San Antonio.  The well kept landscape and wonderful architecture makes for a wonderful backdrop.  Shooting on the grounds is inexpensive and easy.  A small $20 grounds fee is collected by security, preventing the need to fill out paperwork or obtain a permit beforehand.

The grounds can get a bit crowded depending on the time of day and weather, so some patience and planning is recommended.  It is not uncommon to find a number of photographers as well as museum goers wandering about taking in the art.  There are the typical photo spots, but there are plenty of areas for those with a creative eye.  Make sure to check the hours the grounds are open, which vary from the museum itself, if you are planning a visit.

San Antonio Engagement Photographer – Downtown River Walk

When suggesting the San Antonio River Walk as an engagement photography location, I am often met with a hesitant response.  The image most people visualize is the crowded narrow walkway in the heart of the tourist attraction.  I typically have to paint the picture of a much more laid back and intimate location away from the crowds.  Just outside the main River Walk area is a more picturesque and quaint trail, that offers an intimate atmosphere.

Rebecca and Cody were up for the adventure, and trusted we would get some great photos for their engagement session.  I always get excited when a local couple experiences new locations and sites they have not encountered before.  The diversity and architecture of downtown allows for a wide range of backdrops, which Rebecca and Cody loved.

Pedernales Falls

Pedernales Falls is one of those locations that tugs at me.  The grand nature of the river, the rock formations, the intricacies of the landscape all come together to provide a spectacular experience.  My first thought when visiting locations like this is how exciting it would be to stage a bridal shoot there.  The creative possibilities are limitless.

My recent visit to the park was more of a photographic scouting trip.  My effort was to identify some possible locations for a bridal or engagement shoot that would result in compelling images.  It was an effort in narrowing down the limitless possibilities to a manageable number of likely photography spots.  Overall the trip was good and helped give some initial shape to my ideas.  I left with some good images for planning and staging, but I also need to find the right bride or couple to being the vision to life.

If you are interested in being a part of this project, and feel you would enjoy the creative and planning process, I would like to hear from you.

Schoolteacher Engagement

There is something about a schoolteacher that is downright cool.  Put two teachers together and you have a cool factor that is off the chart.  So, the pressing question…where do you do the engagement photos for two teachers engaged?  I am always up for an interesting location, and I never turn down a spot that is special to a couple.  Somehow I wasn’t surprised when Michelle and Jeff suggested the school grounds where they teach.

So the day of the shoot, off we went looking for an appealing location to create some fun engagement photos.  They had just the spot; an outdoor terrace, where they often retreat with their students for lessons and discussions.  It was a small area, but it was a wonderful spot for an engagement session.  Everything felt right, and their love as well as their enthusiasm for teaching shown bright as the morning sun.

Sueyon and Joel Engagement Photography at McNay

Time of day can play a big role in creating beautiful photographs.  It is always fun to plan out a shoot so that it finishes up around sunset.  Not only is the light fantastic, but for engagement and couple shoots everyone is at ease and feeling comfortable.  The images take on a rich atmosphere and the gorgeous sunset color compliment the images nicely.

For Sueyon and Joel we settled on the McNay Art Museum as the location for their engagement photos.  The McNay has a long history with area photographers and provides a gorgeous backdrop with varied scenes and wonderful architecture.  My challenge with familiar locations is keeping the images creative and fresh.  It is easy to fall into a pattern of always shooting the same set-up, but with the McNay there is a wide range of opportunities for unique shots.

The late day shoot was perfect and we made good use of the sunset and clouds to create some incredible images that they both loved.  Congrats Sueyon and Joel, and thanks for a wonderful evening at the McNay.

Jessica and Juan – A San Antonio Engagement

I always enjoy getting together with my wedding couples for engagement photography.  This past week I had the opportunity to create some beautiful photos of Jessica and Juan.  There wedding is quickly approaching and I am excited to capture these two again on their special day.  For the engagement photos it was the first time for me to photograph at the Lourdes Grotto on Oblate here in San Antonio.  The area is gorgeous and includes a rich history which can be seen on the website.
