Top 3 Outdoor Locations for Family Photos in San Antonio

Finding a beautiful spot for family photos can sometimes be difficult. You might struggle from an overabundance of spots making it difficult to pick the right one, or you might not have any idea where to start.

The biggest consideration is time of day. Ideally an outdoor session should be scheduled for “golden hour”. That time just before sunset where the light is the most flattering and soft which results in a gorgeous atmosphere to the images. You want to always defer to your photographer’s suggestion since they should know what makes for the best photo. For us it is just before sunset.

As for our list of spots:

  1. Crescent Bend Nature Park – 12780 W Schaefer Rd, Cibolo, TX 78108
  2. Converse City Park – 307 School St, Converse, TX 78109
  3. Hot Wells of Bexar County – 5503 S Presa St, San Antonio, TX 78223

For a complete list of great outdoor locations follow the link to our Benable list.

Candid San Antonio Family Photography

We have opened up our availability for family photography in the San Antonio area. For many years we only took on family sessions for past wedding clients and their relatives. As Michelle and I transition into full time wedding photography we have added family sessions to our services.

Our approach fits perfectly into our style of candid images that have an emotional atmosphere. Lighting has always played a key role in our images so the cinematic style we love can be found in all our work including family photos. Follow the link to get more information on sessions and additional images.

Family Portraits

I have put together a family portrait package that offers convenience as well as value for San Antonio families.   I am a proponent of tangible prints, so the package includes a gallery quality, 20×30 standout print, ready for hanging.  A DVD of images is still included with your package but now you also get a large print that will look great in the home or office.  To address the convenience factor I am scheduling sessions either at your home or a location convenient for your family.  this could include a park or other such location suitable for family portraits.

For additional detail visit the family page on my site and contact me to schedule your session.

Cavazos Family

The Cavazos family spent some time in the studio this past weekend.  They make the drive from Laredo to San Antonio every other week so their daughter can take private ballet lessons  from Sarah.  The goal was to get some good photographs of their kids doing what they love.  Before the shoot was over we talked them into a family shot as well.

Cherie and Mark

I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph Cherie and Mark, just before the Holidays.  They have a lovely house near Medina Lake, and the drive out made for a scenic view of the maples that dotted the countryside with color.  Most of my shooting is within San Antonio, so the drive made for a pleasant start to the morning.  They were looking for a few formal shots along with some more festive images for holiday cards.  It was very enjoyable working with a couple that was so laid back and comfortable.  Here are several of the shots that were my favorite.

Hattori Family Fall Photos

This past January I photographed the Hattori family here in San Antonio, and in November I had the opportunity again.  For our latest portrait session, the Hattori family met me at the McNay Art Museum.  The McNay continues to be one of the hot spots in San Antonio for photography, but that did not hinder us from getting some great shots.

2010 Fall Photos

With all my focus on wedding photography lately I have not spent much time shooting portraits or family photos.  Thanks to the Lee family, I was reminded that it is a perfect time to shoot some family portraits.  At least that is what I thought until we got rained out a couple of weeks ago.  A second try at it this weekend looks a lot more promising.

I have rescheduled time this Sunday afternoon at Walker Ranch Park here in San Antonio, to shoot.  With the cooler temps it is much more pleasant to get out for the afternoon and capture some great images for area families.  The interest has been good again this year so it looks like I may add a second date, but at this point I still have a couple of slots open at 3 and 4pm for interested families or individuals.
